Fusion of urban tap dancing and Japanese percussion performs December 15-24, 2006 at the CSV Flamboyan Theater in New York, New York.

Urban tap dancing and Japanese percussion seems like an odd combination at first glance, but producer Sakuraki Fukuyama presents COBU's ICHIDA NYUKON to the Western world with much fervor in this awe-inspiring production, born from the innovative imagination of six-year STOMP resident Yako Miyamoto. Miyamoto has joined Fukuyama as the director for ICHIDA NYUKON.From December 15-24, 2006 you can see this highly acclaimed original production of "One Beat. One Soul" at the CSV Flamboyan Theater (107 Suffolk Street NY, New York).

COBU is a Japanese Taiko percussion group created in 2000 by Yako Miyamoto, who starred in the Off-Broadway hit STOMP for over six years and is a principal tapper in the Peggy Spina Tap Company. Her creation of COBU (meaning "Dance like Drumming, Drum like Dancing") was meant to be an homage to her native home in Japan and to create a union with her newfound home of New York City.

For her new show, ICHIDA NYUKON, Miyamoto turned to nature for enlightened inspiration, joining the cultures of Japan and the unique lifestyle of New York together. Using traditional Taiko drums, African djembe drums and funky urban tap dancing techniques, Miyamoto creates a feeling of unity with nature for the audiences ears and eyes.

Critics have called the show "unexpected and beautiful" (BroadwayWorld.com), "Dynamic!" (Chicago Sun-Times) and "powerful, primal and exotic, but simultaneously lighthearted, fun and familiar" (New York Times).
